Matanzas
Matanzas is the prosperous Cuban city which was established in 1693 in the banks of bay. Matanzas district is known for its fruitful land where was grown a big and powerfull sugar industry. Danson, national dance, is from Matanzas – it was created by local composer Miguel Failde. Many of cuban outstanding people were born in Matanzas: Miguel Teurbe Tolon, Jose Hacinto Milanes, Bonifacio Birne and Carilda Oliver Lavra.
Matanzas is known as “Cuban Athens” for its cultural life. Matanzas is called as “Cuban Venezia” for its bridges over San Juan and Yumuri rivers. Anyway Matanzas is very interesting cuban district where there are lots of sights such as Yumuri Valley – one of the picturesque places in Cuba.
Matanzas city has many of monuments. Neoclassical building of Sauto theatre is the national manument. It was build in 1863 near the square Placa de la Vijia. You will be adviced to visit Placa de Libertad, “Tricklet” pharmacy, musical hall in the name of Jose White, San Carlos cathedral and San Pedro Apostle church. There is a Beliamar cave with huge stalagmites and stalactites.
Only 30 minutes devides Matanzas city from the world known resort Varadero. You may visit Cardenas city and Zapata peninsula with its wild and virgin nature.
Varadero

Being the well known resort Varadero attracts many sea and beach amateurs. There are golf club, Carabelas beach for seclusion, underwater park Cayo Piedras and many other activities. You also find thousands of small markets, museums, parks and artists galleries. I’m not mentioning the best hotels and restaurants in Varadero. Nightlife is prospering: clubs, disco and private parties.
