Traditional popular festivals and carnivals are the expression of cuban’s originality, good mood and musical temperament. The most well known carnivals are “parrandas” and “charangas“. The carnival in Santiago de Cuba is the most vivid carnival in Cuba. It takes place on 24 – 26 of July every year. This festival differs from other festivals by its “comparsas” – a group of people creating a musical choreography of the city. As a rule members of “comparsas” make a big dolls and revolving lamps. Another distinguishing feature is “congas” characterized for spontaneity of members. There are mass dances to the accompaniment of drums.

Following musicians people dance and enjoy. Pyrotechnic show is also the main part of all festivals. “Charangas” takes place in December, in the west part of Cuba. People organize a competition by making carriages. Then they adorn carriages and go by the streets dancing and singing. The winner will be the command which presents the most brilliant and reach show.
